Finally-- A New Jersey Bear Season!

 

 
Finally--The science of wildlife management has triumphed over ignorance, politics and hysteria in New Jersey. For five years we have watched skyrocketing increases in bear-human conflicts. For five years we’ve seen police reduced to coaxing bears off porches instead of arresting criminals. We’ve watched bear damage to crops and orchards cause mounting economic losses. We’ve watched a bear population expand so dramatically it’s put Ursus dangerously out of balance with its diminishing habitat. But finally, after years of urging from professional wildlife biologists and conservation groups, the state will allow a controlled, regulated bear season this fall.
