In my opinion that place goes to the 22 Hornet. I can say from my own experience it is a very accurate cartridge. One of the finest rifles that it was chambered in was the now discountinued Brno ZKK465, a true minature mauser action with a double set trigger. The current CZ 550 which is the modern version of the ZKK465 still makes a 22 Hornet, which is also very accurate I am told.

Going back to the Brno ZKK 465, the double set trigger is an absolute joy to use. You set the hair trigger by pressing on the rear trigger, this does not fire the gun, but activates or cocks the front trigger. You then have to just breathe on the front trigger to fire the rifle. It is a joy to shoot and while it takes a little getting used to, one can shoot extremely accurately with the hair trigger with a little practice.

The 22 Hornet shoots a 45 grain soft nose or 46 grain hollow point. It has no felt recoil and the report is far less than any of the hotter 22s. While it is not ideal for larger game, I can only say that with accurate bullet placement the effect on small deer, buck and even medium hogs is unbelieveable. I have seen buck shot at 200 yards with it, but my advise is not to use it beyond 125 yards. The sound of the bullet striking the animal is very distinct, unlike what you hear when using any other caliber. I hear the Hornet is also quite popular in Africa! Perhaps some of the African members can tell us their experience. Try it you will be surprised.
